Did you know that in the beginning of The Wall movie, Pink’s father can be seen lighting up a Meva kerosene lamp made in Czechoslovakia? Did you know that certain characters of Final Fantasy VII and the Soul Eater manga-anime are named after Syd Barrett? Did you know that there are several shots of David Gilmoure’s wife Polly Samson and their two sons in the footage of the last Pink Floyd gig?

Dan Dare

comic character, mentioned in the lyrics of Astronomy Domine, a song that first appeared on The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Dan Dare is a character created by Frank Hampson, born 1918, which first appeared in The Eagles magazine in April 1950. Dan Dare has been compared to Biggles, another comic character. The two have one thing in common, they are both pilots, but Biggles piloted fighters while Dan Dare was in charge of spaceships.

The theme of the comic, a cult classic for a whole generation of the British, reflects the 1950s and 1960s love for everything that had something to do with space. Pink Floyd themselves were known in the early years as “space rockers” and the lyrical themes of the early albums show elements of the “space fever”.
