Did you know that Pink Floyd only performed The Wall 29 times and each time they were hidden behind a cardboard wall? Did you know that in the song Seamus a voice can be heard saying “He is the real dog.“ right before one of the “dog solos“? Did you know that Pink Floyd were the first band ever to use synths for composing music and that they contributed to the develompent of synthesizers?

Galtieri Castelli, Leopoldo Fortunato

Argentinian general and de facto the head of state for half a year from late 1981 to June 1982.
Mentioned in the lyrics of Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert from The Final Cut.

General Galtieri is the infamous leader of the last military dictatorship of Argentina. After his junta took over the government, other political parties were banned and Galtieri started a period of tough repression resulting in the death of approximately 30.000 citizens. The inner conflict led in Argentina is called the “dirty war”. At the time, torture was in widespread use as a mean of interrogation.

In 1982, Galtieri visited President Reagan, who appreciated him as a leader of anti-communist opposition.

His popularity being extremely low, Galtieri decided to regain the respect of the people by military action. In April 1982 Argentinian army attacked the Falklands Islands, which belonged to the UK. The islands only have little vegetation and few inhabitants who breed sheep, but the UK has a military base on the island and they are extremely strategically important.
Margaret Thatcher, who also dealt with lack of credit from the people, launched naval task force to retake the islands. The war was short and despite some partial successes of Argentine, the islands were soon under British control again.

Galtieri was deposed few days after.
