King George (George VI - Albert Frederick Arthur George Windsor)

Waters mentions the “old king George,” King George VI., who ruled from 1936 to February 1952, when he died.

George VI was the last king of Ireland, which dissolved from the Commonwealth and declared its independence in 1947, and also the last Emperor of India (until 1947).

King George ruled during WWII. However, his competence was limited and the de facto leader of the country was Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The king issued official proclamations and sent letters of sympathy to the families of the fallen ones. There was so many of them there had to be a whole department of his administration to do it and because it was not possible for a single person to sign them all, the office workers signed them with a rubber stamp...
