Did you know that Nick Mason is the only person to be a member of Pink Floyd all the time the band existed?Did you know that Roger Waters used the voice of the HAL 9000 computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey in the song A Perfect Sense, pt. 3 from Amused To Death? Did you know that Syd Barrett reached the sound of the Piper at the Gates of Dawn album by setting all the knobs and buttons at the studio to form an ornament he liked?
Vic Singh is a photographer known to Pink Floyd fans primarily as the author of the picture on cover of the Pink Floyd debut – Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. He is one of the few photographers who have worked for the band and have no relation to the Hipgnosis group of Storm Thorgerson, the author of the graphics for most of the albums and visual projects.
Vic Singh was born in the Indian city of Lucknow. His father was an Indian raja, his mother an Austrian Vienna-based photographer.
At the age of 16 he was sent to England, where he lived with his mother. It was there that he got his first job as an assistant in a photographic studio. Few years later he founded his own studio in Mayfair, London.
The picture used for the Piper At The Gates Of Dawn cover was taken using a prism, which can divide and multiply what we see. The photography for Piper was the last work Vic Singh did for the band and also his last meeting with anyone of Pink Floyd.
